Referring is a thankless job, but I love it: Meet Zubair Ahmad

Srinagar, April 17: Hajin is a small town in Bandipora which is always in news in some way or other. This time, it’s again in news. Zubair belongs to Hajin area and he is a referee by profession. Hajin has always been known for producing some elite footballer’s and football is more famous than cricket here.


Zubair was himself a football player but an average one, he confesses. He played for Wahab FC Hajin. Then in 2017, he was referring in a local football match where he met Nazir Ahmad (HOR) JK, who suggested him to apply at AIFF for coaching and, it’s from there, Zubairs life started to change.

Today, looking back at life and struggles throughout, Zubair is quite content at what he has achieved. Presently, Zubair is a Cat 3 referee at AIFF and he has officiated in many big football Leagues such as Junior I league, All India Police tournament, Police Martyrs football Cup and also Premier Division League at TRC Srinagar. Besides officiating in matches, Zubair is also secretary DFA Zone Hajin. In coming time, Zubair has set his eyes on appearing in Cat 2 exam and he is hopefull, he will make it through.
Zubair is quite enthusiastic about football and he wants to give it back to it in one way or other. He believes, coaching alone can help him to give it back.
Zubair is very much thankful to JKFA and Nazir Ahmad, without them, it wasn’t possible for Zubair to reach at this top level.
