Rasik is one among those lucky players to get the chance at highest level and Rasik feels good about it.

Rasik belongs to kulgam area of Kashmir and from the childhood, he loved playing cricket just like any other kids around. Whoever starts playing cricket doesn’t play it for mere enjoyment, everyone wants to make a career out of it. But here in Kashmir, it’s quite tough as the infrastructure is quite limited and this problem is even acknowledged by Rasik too in an interview with Mumbai Indians team management.

Everyone here doesn’t have the resources to go and play outside state and that creates problems for players.
Last year, JKCA started District level cricket tournaments and Rasik performed extremely well and this led him to get a chance to participate in state level selection trials where he impressed everyone.

Then came the big time when he got the chance to bowl in front of Indian Ace cricketer Irfan Pathan who was roped in by JKCA as mentor cum player in order to nourish the young talent of state. He was selected for practice matches where he took a hat-trick in his 2nd over paving the way for his selection in trials for Vijay trophy with JKCA senior team.

After that he was called for IPL trials where he bowled extremely well, thus earning the contract with Mumbai Indians team later on in auctions.
During his time with JKCA team at U-19 level and Ranji level, Rasik had a niggle and shin pain. Rasik immediately contacted management of Mumbai Indians team, and they advised him come to Mumbai, so that he can recover well under physios guidance. Rasik did his rehab, prehab training during the 3 month time he spent at Mumbai Indians team and they took care of him like a family.

On the auctions day, Rasik’s family couldn’t watch the auctions live due to power shortage but watched highlights later on.They were very much happy and it was something which every cricket player wishes for. At such a young age, reaching this far, it’s a dream come true for Rasik Salam.
