Abid Hussain wins GDC Pulwama Road Race

The Department of Physical Education and Sports GDC Pulwama organised the annual Road Race from Pulwama to Kakapora.

70 students of the college participated in the race which was flagged off by the Principal GDC Pulwama, Prof Farooq Ahmad Andrabi. The athletes started the race with great enthusiasm. Muran chowk Pulwama was enveloped in green colour as all the participants and officials had worn green uniforms. As the race started, every participant tried to outdo his opponent but it was Mir Abid Hussain who finished first. Sajad Ahmad Yatoo and Shahid Bashir finished 2nd and 3rd respectively. Throughout the whole distance the athletes tried their level best to sprint away from one another by taking lead. When they reached near finishing point it was Sajad Ahmad Yatoo who was looking stronger physically and took advantage of that by sprinting away from Shahid Bashir and took lead of 70 to 80 meters and claimed 2nd spot.

Meanwhile ahead of these two athletes Mir Abid Hussain crossed the finish line with the timing of 38:10:61 having comfortable lead of 400m meters from number two finisher. Waseem crossed finish line second with timing of 40:06:92 and Shahid Bashir bagged third place with the timing of 40:30:15.

After the conclusion of race, prize distribution ceremony was organized at GDC Pulwama. The prizes were given away to the first five position holders.

Principal GDC Pulwama in his speech said, “I am proud that we have such talented players in our college. I hope they will bring laurels for the college in inter-college and inter-university level competitions.”

All the members of the College Sports Board, the staff of the Department of Physical Education of the College were actively involved in the event. Senior faculty members Prof G M Nengroo, Prof M A Malik, Prof Gulzar Ahmad Ganie, Dr Parvaiz Ahmad, Dr Mohammad Amin, Dr Nisar Ahmad, Dr Rayees Ahmad, Prof Dawood Ahamd, Dr Tanveer Ahmad, Prof Hamidullah Ganie, Mr Gulzar Ahmad were a well-knit team to make this event a success. The local fund employees did a great job in making the arrangements. Their support is duly acknowledged. Meanwhile the Annual College Cycle Race for the college students is scheduled to be held on of 3rd April 2021.
