Musavir Majid misses ton, Gandhi Memorial College team enter into quarter finals
Prof. Yousf Memorial Inter-College Cricket Championship
Gandhi Memorial College Srinagar cruised into the quarter-finals with a comprehensive 90 runs victory over the GDC Handwara in the ongoing Prof. Yousuf Memorial Cricket tournament being played at Islamia College play field Srinagar.
The teams had an introductory session with Prof. Shamim Ahmed Shamim, Convenor Islamia College Sports Committee.
Earlier, after winning the toss Gandhi College captain opted to bat first and the team took full advantage of the average bowling and fielding of the Handwara team. Gandhi batters piled up a huge score of 254 runs for the loss of 4 wickets. Musavir Majid with 93 runs off 70 balls and Ashiq Bashir 71 off 35 balls were the main contributors of Gandhi College innings. Najma Zuha, Amir Nazir, and Aqib Nazir had one consolation wicket each for Handwara.
In reply, chasing a huge target of 255 runs in the allotted 25 overs the Handwara College could score 163 runs only in 22.2 overs with Iqbal Shafi with 31 runs as the main run-getter. For Gandhi College Asif Jheelani took 4 wickets while Sameer and Owais took 2 wickets each. Musavir of Gandhi College was adjudged the man of the match.
The tournament is being organized by the department of physical education Islamia College in memory of ex-principal of the college Prof. Mohammed Yousuf.
