Superstar From South Kashmir: Meet Ishtiyaq Rasool (Ish Naag)

When you are a cricketer from South Kashmir, people have expectations from you considering how talented player’s from South Kashmir are and Ishtiyaq Rasool is one among the many from the South, probably among the most famous cricketers from Kashmir Valley.

Ishtiyaq belongs to the Mattan area of South Kashmir’s Anantnag district. He is known everywhere by his nickname ISH NAG. This name was given to him by locals for his outrageous stroke play. He hits the ball as hard as anyone else. He decimates the bowling attacks.

ISH NAG made it to professional cricket in 2010 and from there, he hasn’t looked back. Iqbal Shah was the one who kept supporting him along the way. Ish Nag has learned all the basic things about the game by himself he was coached by none.

It’s quite surprising to see the ISH NAG idolizes a local Kashmiri Cricketer. His idol is Aadil Reshi from Srinagar who is also a star in cricket. Ish Nag was lucky in another matter too. He was born in a cricketing family. All the family members used to play cricket and he took it from there.

Then the big Break came in the 2013/2014 season when he got to play 3 T20’s in Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. But after that, he never got the chance to represent JKCA again but he is hoping against the odds. He believes, he can still make it to the J&K’s T20 team this year.

Ish Nag doesn’t remember how many centuries and 50’s he has crossed. He only remembers his highest score which is a staggering 239 in a T20 match.

Presently, Ishtiyaq Rasool (ISH NAG) represents the Kashmir Gymkhana Cricket Club led by Adil Reshi the old and famous Club of Jammu and Kashmir. With some more years of his prime, Ish Nag Would want it to count and play at the top level again.
