Anantnag Wins YSS Cup Cricket Title

YSS Cup Proving an effective tool to discover sports talent at grass root level: JD YSS

The district team of Anantnag won the title of YSS Cup Cricket after playing a magnificent innings and winning by 35 runs against District Team of Baramullah at Kashmir University ground here. After winning the toss Anantnag chose to bat and set a huge target of 215 runs for their opponents. Baramulla could only make 179 at the loss of 8 wickets in the allotted 20 overs. Zahid from Anantnag was declared MOM for his impressive 87 on 37 balls. Hyder Ali from Baramullah was declared Man of The Tournament (MOT) for his magnificent 216 runs and 11 wickets in 6 matches.

Team Bandipora stole third place in the tournament after winning hardliner match against the District Team of Srinagar. Team Bandipora could manage a decent score of 189 runs in the allotted overs while as the city boys collapsed at just a meagre score of 72.

44 matches of this mega tourney were played on 6 different venues and about 200 officials of the Department were deputed for the successful conduct of the tournament. The Tournament was played on league cum knockout basis. 19 teams from 19 districts of the UT were participating in the mega tournament. Directions of the senior officers were passed on to the field officials on duty to keep a close track of the performances of the players as the better ones are being groomed further with the help of advanced coaching by the Department of YS&S.

Pertinently the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place teams were felicitated with the cash prizes of Rs 50K, 30K and 20K respectively besides being given the trophies and mementos.

Conveners of different committees which were established to ensure the best possible arrangement for the conduct of the tournament were felicitated with mementos.

Bashir Ahmed Joint Director Kashmir of the Department of YSS while lavishing praise on the winning team has said that playing a game is important than winning or losing because, every game we play has its own importance and value in our life. Sometimes a game can change our lives. It is better to learn every-time, rather than seeing to winning or losing. While speaking about the important initiatives of Government in the direction of ensuring participation of students and non-students in games and sports, JD stated that sports tournaments like YSS Cup are proving very help to the Department in tapping and channelising sports talent at grass roots level. “ The Department has already started the process of registration for the second phase of YSS Cup and on the same pattern like YSS Cup-21, teams for 4 games i.e. Volleyball, Cricket, Kabbadi and Kho-Kho are being selected at Panchayat or Municpal Committee level.’’ he added. Bashir Ahmed expressed his gratitude to the Kashmir University and other allied agencies for their kind support in organising the tournament hassle freely.

Besides others who were present on the valedictory cum award ceremony of the sports extravaganza included Assistant Director Department Of Physical Education University of Kashmir Tauseef Ahmed, District YS&S Officer Srinagar Balbir Singh, DYSSO Anantnag Mushtaq Ahmed and other senior officers and officials of the Department of YS&S. Shah Shabir Ahmed an official of the Department conduct proceedings of the function.
