Waheed wins second edition of Open MTB Championship

The second edition of the open Mountain Terrain Biking (MTB) cycling championship was held at Syedabad Ompora, Budgam on Sunday.

The event was flagged off by Secretary Sports Council J&K and in it around 90 cyclists took part.

Waheed Ahmed finished first while as Parviaz Hussain and Yasir Arafat second and third position in senior category.

In the category of youth boys

Ikhlak Hussain finished first and Zulfikar Ali and Azaan Ahmed finished second and third.

Later Nuzhat Gull secretary sports council j&k and Owner Downtown Heroes Football Club Mushtaq Bashir, Basharat Qureshi senior cyclist, Dr Mohd Akbar khan member j&k sports council were present on the occasion and distributed prizes among the winners.

The race was being sponsored by Rizwan cycling shop Chadora, Reyaz Gift House Rawalpora, Adil Electronics, Chairman Spring Buds Shanawaz Qureshi and Jeelani Lanker Al Amin Diagnostic & Dialysis Centre Lal Bazar, Ashfaq Zehgeer C- Mars Career Counseling Sanat Nagar.

While interacting with the budding cyclists, Secretary Sports Council of j&k highlighted the importance of cycling and participation of young blood in games and sports. She assured them that every possible step shall be taken by the sports council to build modern cycling tracks and walk ways in all the districts of UT of J&K. She said that Sports Council is committed to create such a culture for games and sports in UT which would encourage youngsters to excel in the field. She also stressed upon the participants of the cycle race to divert their fellow students towards games and sports in thier respective schools and become role models for them. Secretary sports council Nazhut Gull also applauded the encouraging role of Cyclist Dr Mohammad Akbar Khan ( Member j&k sports council) and Gulzar khan sports promoter from district Budgam who have been very inspiring in creating a favorable atmosphere for this sport in the district.
