
Umer Majeed–Man behind JK’s first win in U19 Cooch Bihar Trophy
Srinagar: Umer Majeed’s sixfer for JK gave the much needed win to the team
in U19 Cooch Bihar Trophy against A and A team at MCA Cricket Ground Shillong last month.
Umer played magnificently and took 6 wickets for the team which was instrumental for the team’s win.
Hailing from Baramulla district, the 18-year-old Majeed is becoming a new sensation at U19 level. “I want to make it big and make my hometown people proud by giving the best I could give,” he told The Kashmir Monitor over phone.
Umar has gained confidence from last game and hopes he would continue in performing well.“I will work very hard to give more wins to my team, “he said
Umar dreams to be a part of international team and make his and his mother’s dream come true.“I dream to be a part of international team and fulfill mine and my mother’s dream”, he said
Umer Majeed lost his father in 2007.His mother and his maternal Uncle Toufeeq Ahmed supported and motivated him to play cricket and make everyone proud.
“My mother and maternal uncle are always by my side and motivate me to play no matter what”, he said
Umer Majeed passion for the game and dedication secured him place in the U19 team. “I am playing in Srinagar with UCC from past 2 years. They supported me and helped me in improving my game”, he said
Umer feels that J&K is filled with talent but because of lack of platform and opportunities they are not able to make it big.
“I think cricket academies should be opened in J&K so that the youngsters will get a platform,”Umer said.
His message to the budding cricketers is, “Focus on your goals and work hard and with full dedication .”
