Sunrisers Hyderabad didn’t make it to the finals of last year’s IPL; however, their campaign was an exciting one. It unraveled several talented youngsters who can play for Team India in the future. One such batsman was the young player from Jammu and Kashmir, Abdul Samad, pretty much unknown in IPL but very much known in Indian domestic Cricket for his exploits. The 18-year-old also became the 3rd player from J&K to make their IPL debut in the cash-rich league. With some short fire cameo’s last year, Samad is back to his usual with SRH in this year’s IPL.

Playing their first match against KKR, SRH had a tough ask in front of them. Chasing a huge target, Baristow and Manish Pandey had laid the perfect foundation for Samad to come and play his natural game but SRH management had some other plans as they sent Mohammad Nabi and Vijay Shankar before Samad to the crease. They couldn’t do much but when the turn of Samad came, he hit his first ball into the stands for a huge 93 meter six, then hitting another one, both coming of world’s no 1 test bowler Pat Cummins.
Samad showed glimpses of his talent again today but his cameo couldn’t help SRH win as they lost the match by 10 runs. Had SRH sent him to bat up a little, things could have been different from seeing Samad’s form and mood.

People expect Samad to perform better with every game and for that Samad needs some more time at crease and SRH management need to understand this. After the match, Irfan Pathan, mentor of Samad questioned why was Samad sent late to bat? Akash Chopra tweeted and said Samad is a special talent and can go a long way in his career. One thing is for sure, Samad is destined for bigger things on the cricket field and who knows, this IPL might change his fortunes forever.
