LG inaugurated J&K Premier League Jammu

J&K Premier League Jammu was inaugurated by Shri Manoj Sinha, Hon’ble Lt. Governor UT J&K today on 20th of January 2021 at K.K Hakku Stadium, Jammu in the disciplines of Football, Hockey, Kabaddi ad Volleyball. The inaugural function was attended by Advisor to Lt. Governor UT J&K Shri Farooq Khan, Secretary to Government Youth Services and Sports, Tourism and Culture J&K Shri Sarmad Hafiz. Commissioner Secretary to Govt. School Education Department, DGP Shri Dilbagh Singh, Secretary J&K Sports Council Dr. Naseem Javid Chowdhary, and other Officers of J&K Sports Council. The function was also attended by various Sports Association as well as Sports personalities of various games.

On the arrival of Chief Guest, the teams of Premier League were introduced which was followed by the inaugural address read by Secretary to Government Youth Services and Sports. Advisor (F) informed the gathering that Sports infrastructure in all the districts has been constructed for the usage of Youth to channelize their energy in the right direction. He also briefed about the formats of Premier League J&K being played at District, Divisional and U.T level. He further informed the Chief Guest that a similar Premier League in 12 Sports Disciplines shall be organized in the next financial year to provide a platform to the youth of the U.T J&K to showcase their talent.

Lieutenant Governor in his observation speech appreciated the organizers for conducting such type of tournaments across J&K. He further said that sports infrastructure raised by Govt is one the best in the country and J&K will be soon recognized as a powerhouse of sports.

The first phase matches of District Jammu Premier League shall commence from tomorrow Started with Hockey matches at K.K Hakku Stadium Club and other matches in the disciplines of Football, Volleyball and Kabaddi shall commence at Mini Stadium parade ground Jammu, Shastri Nagar Playing Field Jammu and Indoor Sports Hall Bhagwati Nagar, Jammu respectively.

Over 12 Football Teams, 06 Hockey Teams, 06 Kabaddi Teams, and 06 Volleyball teams shall compete with each other to qualify for the Divisional level round. The League shall conclude within a period of one month which will be followed by Divisional level league formats. Similar League Matches shall also commence at District Samba, Ramban, Reasi, Doda, and Kishtwar. District Level League Matches at Poonch and Rajouri have already been completed whereas league matches at District Level in Udhampur and Kathua are in progress.

​The players as well as supporters of all the disciplines appreciated the initiative taken by the J&K Sports Council in conducting the Premier League despite the COVID-19 Pandemic.
