Junaid Aslam took 6 wicket haul, Islamia College enter into the title clash

In the first semifinal match of the Prof. Yousuf Memorial Cricket tourney being played at Islamia College playfield, the Islamia College team defeated Govt Degree College Pulwama by 6 wickets.

Before the toss, the teams were welcomed by Prof. Shiekh Ajaz Bashir, principal of Islamia College on the college’s cricket turf with other faculty members also present on the occasion.

After winning the toss host college captain invited the visiting team to bat first. While batting first Pulwama college team was restricted on 141 runs all out in 26 overs on a good batting track with Zahid Latif’s 44 and captain Zahid’s quickfire 43 in 19 balls punctuated with 6 sixes. Left-arm spinner Junaid Aslam of Islamia College was unplayable with the ball as he removed 6 Pulwama batsmen with his accurate bowling.

In reply, chasing a target of 142 runs the hosts overhauled it in 20.1 overs losing 4 wickets in the process. Ishfaq and Aafan hit the fifties for the host team. Zahid of Pulwama College continued his good form with the ball as well taking 3 wickets. Junaid Aslam was adjudged the man of the match. Tomorrow on Sunday, GDC Baramulla will face GDC Anantnag in another semifinal.

The tournament is being organized by the Department of Physical Education Islamia College in memory of Prof. Mohammed Yousuf Saheb an ex-principal of the college.
