Give me the ball, see how it dances to my tone: Meet Mehraj Rasool

T20 has changed Cricket in favor of batsman. Experts say it’s tough to be a bowler in the era of T20 cricket. It’s now all batsman’s game. Then, some bowlers relish the challenge of bowling in the powerplay and make an instant impact. One such bowler is Mehraj Rasool from dist Kupwara. Basically, belonging to Handwara but he has spent all his life in Lolab Valley. Mehraj is a fast-medium bowler and can bat too lower down the order.

Mehraj from the very start had a keen interest in cricket and would always play with the kids of his village. Starting as a top-order batsman, he switched to fast bowling later on owing to his natural capability to swing the ball in the air at pace. Playing at the local level led him to represent various small teams and instantly made a mark with his performances. In 2020, Mehraj Rasool took an important decision to move out of state for practice for winters. After coming back, he started performing better wherever he played. Starting with Young Lords Diver and YMC Lolab, still unknown to many, he was roped in by Ramhal Reds, one of North Kashmir’s top team. This is where he realized his full potential and started creating ripples among the cricketing circles of North Kashmir. Then the things started to fall in place and he got to play with many top teams of the Valley.

Mehraj Rasool has good family support to pursue his career in cricket. He credits his all success to his mother, who has been his backbone in good and bad times. She is the one who keeps motivating him to work harder for his dreams. Till now, Mehraj Rasool has won countless Man of the matches and Man of the tournament awards with the latest coming at Chandigarh where he was practicing in winters. He is also thankful to everyone till now, who has supported him in any manner during his starting days till now.

Swing bowling is an art and Mehraj is an expert in this art. He can swing the ball both ways. His special ability is swinging it in the air inwards at a pace that has taken many top players by surprise. He says, that gives him the ball and then see, how I will make it dance to my tunes. He relishes bowling in the powerplay with the new ball but he is also aware that one needs to be good at the death bowling too. He is working on that too. For now, Mehraj Rasool is all gearing up to represent his state in the future and time will tell, if he fulfills his potential.

error: I never liked to copy things that are out there. I always like to come up with something new, something different
