Final Selection trials of Wushu for the 19th Asian Games at SKISC Srinagar on 23-24th June 2023

The Wushu Association of India will conduct the Final Selection trial for the 19th Asian Games on 23rd and 24th June 2023 at SKISC Srinagar. The National Wushu coaching Camp is already in progress at SKISC Srinagar from 6th June till 3rd August 2023. The number of campers for the first i.e. 6th June to 31st June is 45 campers and the number of campers for the second phase from 1st July to 3rd August is 37 Campers.

As per the directions from the ministry youth affairs and sports, The entry by name to be sent to Indian Olympic Association (IOA) on and before 30th June 2023. The Sports Authority of India has sanctioned a 2 Months National Wushu coaching camp at Srinagar for the preparation of the Indian Wushu team for the 19th Asian Games at Hanzhou from 25th September to 8th October 2023.

The Wushu Association of India has constituted a Selection committee for the Selection trial which is headed by the president of the Wushu association of India Sh. Jitender Singh Bajwa and Dronacharya Awardee Kuldeep Handoo, who is the National Chief Coach of India, Suhel Ahmed CEO WAI, Dr Arif and Abhilash Saxena will be the members of the Selection committee.

The National Doping team has deputed 04 officials for the testing of the team and to conduct education programmes for the campers.

The Second phase of the National Wushu coaching camp will begin from 1st July till 3rd August and the team will leave for China for the foreign exposure training for 45 days and will remain there till the Games.

In the second phase of the NCC, some probable’s for the world championship will be included in the National Wushu Coaching camp as the world championship is the prestigious event and the same will be held in USA from 14th to 22nd November 2023. Pertinent to mention here that Indian Wushu team bagged 02 Gold medals in the last world championship held at Shanghai in 2019.

Three campers in Sanda event namely Surya Bhanu Partap Singh (Asian Games Medalist) Abhishek Singh (National Games Gold medalist) and Owais Sarwar (National Games/National Medalist) will fight for their reservation for the games.

Pertinent to mention here that 13 Players (6 Sanda and 7 Taolu Players) will be shortlisted for the final list, which will be submitted to Sports Authority of India and Indian Olympic Association for the further sanction and the further course of action.

Observer from the Sports Authority of India will be the part of the Member of the Selection committee for the 19th Asian Games.

As per the National Chief Coach of India, Sh. Kuldeep Handoo, the Sports Authority of India is planning to have permanent centre for Wushu in J&K and the J&K Sports Council Headed by Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor Sh. Manoj Singh and his team has already given consent for the same.
