Akbar Khan Emerges Champion of Open Mountain Bike (MTB) Championship

Star cyclist of Jammu and Kashmir Akbar Khan won the Open Mountain Bike (MTB) Championship title on 20th June Sunday 2021 held at Budgam. Parvaiz Hussain and Waheed finished the second and third respectively.

Zameer Ahmad Thakur flagged off the 12-kilometer off-road race at Syed Abad Ompora. 50 mountain bikers from the valley participated in the race which passed through majestic mountains.

One of the organizers “Khan Gulzar” said that we were not expecting such an overwhelming response to the championship. “It is the success and we are being encouraged to organize more such events,” said senior cyclist Basharat Qureshi one of the organizers of the race.

“Mountain biking has got a lot of scope in Kashmir. We only need to tape it,” said Zameer Ahmad Thakur senior vice president of Jammu and Kashmir Olympic Association. The race was being sponsored by Pandith Trading Company Humhama, AL-Madina Departmental Store. Rawalpora, Miraj Joinery Mills (MJM) Baghi Ali Mardan Khan, and Riyaz Gift House Rawalpora. The race was supported by the J&K Cycling Association and Kashmir Youth Unity Sports Club.

Mr. Mushtaq Ahmad Dar AL Madina Departmental Store Rawalpora, Mr. Khurshid Ali Riyaz Gift Shop Rawalpora, Mushtaq Ahmad owner of Downtown Football Club Shanawaz Ahmad Chairman Springs Buds High School Ompora, Mohd Ayoub Khan, and Mohd Rafi of DYSS Budgam were present on the occasion and they distributed prizes among winners.
